What Seminars are available?

At each of the 2 sessions you will have a choice of 1 from 3 seminars, as follows:

The Inbetweeners: ministry with 8 - 13 year olds

One of the major dropout points for children and young people in churches is at the end of

Primary School and the start of Secondary School so what can we do as a church to make a difference at this age? This seminar will look at the world of an 8-13year old; what do they like, how can we connect with them and what impact can this age have on our churches as a whole.

Exploring Youth Culture

Understanding teenagers can be a difficult and frustrating experience; their world often seems very different to the one in which we grew up. This seminar will help us to explore life through the lens of a teenager and in particular how popular media shapes how they see the world and influences their values.

Grow your own SPUDS: how to develop youth participation in your congregation

The SPUD Youth Assembly has been an exciting development in the past 3 years which has enabled young people to contribute to the Presbyterian Church at the General Assembly and its Boards and Committees. Many local congregations are also committed to enabling young people to contribute meaningfully to the life, service and decision making of their congregation but how can we practically do this?

Exploring the Bible with children

This seminar will look at ways to make the Bible accessible to children and how to make the text come alive for a generation more familiar with technology than books.

Intentional Small Groups (The Little Gems of Ministry)

When we are surrounded by a world where big, loud and flashy seem to be the preferred options - why is smaller better in ministry? What are the reasons for running small groups in your Youth and Children’s ministry? How do you run them effectively? What are the practicalities? Will they really make a difference?

Finding and developing new leaders

One of the biggest challenges in resourcing our youth and children’s ministry is finding sufficient suitable leaders to run our programmes. This seminar will consider what kind of people we need on our teams, how to find, recruit and develop them (and look after them so that they stick around!

“Helping young people play their role in God’s Big Mission Story”

God’s Big Mission Story is seen from Genesis through to Revelation. God’s heart is to reach out with His love to the whole world, to people of every nation, culture, tribe and language. So where do young people fit into this Big Mission Story!? How can we ignite their vision and passion for the whole wide WORLD, deepen their awareness of what God is doing and equip them for partnering (or serving) in God’s Big Mission Story?
