» Lynsey Marks visit to Malawi with team from Carryduff Presbyterian Church

The Malawi group from Carryduff Presbyterian Church sent a team of 4 medical doctors to Malawi. Two doctors went to Embangweni where they spent their mornings doing ward rounds in the Children’s and Male wards and the afternoons in Outpatients Clinics. They also spent time in the local primary schools and sports teams.

My friend Elaine and I went to the David Gordon Memorial Hospital in Livingstonia. We stayed with Maureen Gordon and we were quickly reminded of her immense stamina and the vast amount of work she covers. We spent a vast amount of our time in the hospital although we were able to spend some time at the local children’s ‘Saturday Club’ and in the local primary school.

We were also able to take out some aid in the form of medicines and other resources, and money to help towards fertiliser costs and AIDS treatment and projects.

We returned home very challenged and humble but more unsettled as we come back to our comfortable homes and well equipped and staffed hospitals.

Thanks to all those who helped and supported us and our friends in Malawi.
