A team from Loughaghery Presbyterian Church together with four people from other churches and 5 Romanian girls arrived in Micske a small Hungarian speaking village in north west Romania on Saturday 2 August 2003.
The first week our work involved teaching English in the mornings with 42 children attending. There is no English taught in the local school so these children were targeted as beginners. In the afternoons we had craft class or games. These were well attended and gave us the opportunity to mix more freely with the children. A Holiday Bible Club programme was used in the evenings and we used the J Team material.
We were also given the opportunity to assist in the building of the new ‘Family House’. This is being built to accommodate 18/24 very under-privileged children from within the presbytery. Loughaghery have funded 20% of the building cost of this house.
At the end of the week the children were given a Bible Storybook written in Hungarian.
The second week was originally organised to target the teenagers of the village but we had to change our plans as the numbers were smaller than we expected. We held a craft class in the morning, outside-games in the afternoon and English classes early evening. A number of young adults and some of the mothers attended these. Then we had an evening programme on the topic ‘The Big Questions’. These sessions were very useful in teaching the basics of the Christian faith and challenging them to be committed to service to their village.
Those who attended the second week received a copy of the Bible in Hungarian.
We thank God for all those who prayed for our trip, for the team He chose, for the good health of the team and for the unity of the team.
