Back to School with God

6th August 2012

“Education, Education, Education!” goes the famous slogan. Education touches all of us in one way or another. Perhaps we are a parent of a child soon to sit exams; a pupil nervous about starting back in September; a governor concerned about the budget; a teacher preparing for another term; or a minister with a school within a mile of the church. Does school matter to God? Of course it does! Can we help and encourage one another as Christians living for Jesus in school and as churches supporting our local schools? Absolutely!

One way we can do this has been endorsed by the Board of Education and welcomed by the General Assembly: Back to School with God Sunday. It involves taking a Sunday in the autumn to highlight God’s concern for those in education. Material to help churches do this has been produced by Scripture Union Scotland and can be accessed on their website: www.suscotland.org.uk/pray/bsg

A number of congregations across PCI are involved in piloting this material, but we don’t want to limit the use of this very good resource. So why not have a look and make some use of it in your congregation. For more information contact James Rogers, jrogers@presbyterianireland.org.
